LG V30 vs Google Pixel 2 XL

LG V30 vs Google Pixel 2 XL

The LG V30 and Google Pixel 2 XL are in most ways very similar smartphones but the difference lies in many basic areas. Mostly, LG offers more in the department of hardware while Google’s expertise lies more in the software department.

In both the phones, the built is of very high quality. The LG V30 is mainly glass build production that enables wireless charging while on the other hand the Pixel 2 XL predominantly has a metal assembly with a soft touch coating on the metal that feels like plastic and curved glass is present in both the phones on the front that makes it comfortable to browse through menus.

The LG V30 has an IP68 water and dust resistance rating whereas the Pixel 2 XL has a rating of IP67. As a provision for expandable storage the LG V30 has a microSD card slot and it also has a headphone jack of 3.5mm with a dominant DAC amplifier that helps in listening to music through headphones an incredible experience. However, the Pixel does not provide any of these features.

LG V30 vs Google Pixel 2 XL

Both phones have the same type of displays. For example, a slight blue tint is noticeable when looking at the displays from an angle though it is a little more prominent in the case of the Pixel 2 XL. Both the devices also have equally thin bezels but comparatively thicker bezels can be seen in the Pixel 2 XL. The display in 2 XL also has dull looking colors but a fix in the software is being worked upon. If you are looking for the best display in smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is highly recommended. Even with their issues, these displays can still make an impression with their OHD solutions and high contrast ratios.

Another software difference is that the LG V30 runs Android 7.1 Nougat when just out of the box and on the other hand the Pixel 2 XL runs the most recent version of Android which is stock Android 8.0 Oreo and it runs the software the exact same way Google expects it to. Google is also incorporated in the Pixel 2 XL in every which way possible. One can actually squeeze the phone to turn on Google Assistant which is quite similar to the HTC U11. Also, Google’s search bars will be seen almost everywhere. Some users will like the performance advantages of stock Android and the fact there will be guaranteed updates available for Pixel 2 from Google for a time period of at least the next three years. Others will, to the least, be displeased with the skinned version of Android Nougat that contains a horde features which are specific to LG like for example, the floating bar whose main purpose is to enable easy access to apps via shortcuts which is in the form of a floating bar on your screen. The Snapdragon 835 chipset is featured in both the phones along with a RAM of 4GB, however, the Pixel 2 is much smoother and faster than its rival, because of the pure edition of Android present in it.

The LG V30 is also one step ahead of the Pixel 2 XL when it comes to the hardware in terms of the cameras. It has a 16-megapixel main camera with industry leading statistics such as /1.6 aperture and 13-megapixel f/1.9 aperture with wide angle sensor. The Pixel 2 XL has just a 12-megapixel primary camera sensor on the back. Both the cameras can capture unbelievable results in all types of lighting conditions. Again, the LG V30 gets an additional point compared to the Pixel 2 XL in terms of hardware as it has a wider f/1.6 aperture but the Pixel combats that with its unique technology that has dual pixel which in turn gives Google more matter to work with so that it can produce amazing images. In spite of its weaker hardware, the Pixel 2 is competent enough to capture brighter low light pictures and better photos in HDR as compared to the LG V30. Its camera is best suited for front facing selfies. The front facing camera in LG V30, however, is poor and often produces grainy and poor quality selfies.

A remarkable wide angle camera sensor is present in the LG V30 that can capture amazing landscape and nature photos, a capability that the Pixel lacks due to limitations in its hardware. It also has manual controls for photos and videos capturing along with really unique filters and zoom tricks that are best suited for creative users.

Talking about heavy usage, the LG V30 has 3,300 mAh battery and a 3,520mAh battery is present in the Pixel 2 XL. The Pixel 2 XL, comparatively, has more possibility of lasting through the entire day on a single charge, which is all because of its larger capacity battery and software that is better optimized. As mentioned earlier, the LG V30 has a quad DAC and headphone jack which is not present in the Google phone. However, the Pixel 2 XL does have dual stereo speakers which are front facing and they have excellent sound handling system, comparatively better than the bottom-facing speakers of the LG V30.

When considering the hardware rather than the software, the LG V30 is the winner. Its storage is expandable, has wireless charging, rear facing camera sensors that are dual and a headphone jack with an amazing quad DAC. These hardware features are not seen in the Pixel 2 XL but if you are looking for the best mobile software, guaranteed updates received directly from Google, unique hardware and other software features such as the squeeze feature and portrait modes, then Pixel 2 Xl will definitely be the better choice.

A few shortcomings can be overlooked in terms of hardware but the pricing of $850 off-contract for the Pixel 2 XL may make it difficult for some buyers. Relatively, the LG V30 is about $50 cheaper and has more hardware related features compared to its competitor to give it an extra edge over it. However, the Pixel phone will eventually prove to be a more comfortable purchase because of the newly added stereo speakers and the latest waterproofing rating that the former Pixel did not have.

Twit IQ Gadget Review: Samsung Gear Icon X (2018)

Twit IQ Gadget Review: Samsung Gear Icon X (2018)

Samsung’s Gear Icon X Earbuds

Just a fancy name or has the Samsung Gear Icon X have the goods? To be released in 2018 will these ear buds actually live up to the hype. They may be a reliable set of headphones and apart for some minor problems they may prove to be a good buy.

There are a lot of wireless ear buds out there so the competition is tough can these Samsung gear icon X ear buds level the playing field. On using them you may find that the bass is a little weak and the songs sound a little shallow to the ears but all in all hearing your songs is decent on the Samsung gear icon X ear buds.

Battery life on Gear Icon X:

The earbuds come with a 4 hour battery life which gets diminished if you use it on workouts as the voice assistant doesn’t quit motivating you especially on those grueling runs you have going on. You may even find that one of your earbud’s battery life diminishes faster because of the voice assistant.

Samsung Gear Icon X

The Samsung Gear does not have a shut off button, so even when you are not using it the battery gets drained. These ear buds come with a sort of box that works as a storage container cum charging outlet. The box provides charging for up to two full charges before you need to connect it to a power outlet. The earbuds switch off only when in the box.

Sensor in the Samsung Gear Icon X ear buds:

Smart or not so smart that is the question. The ear buds come with a smart sensor that detects when it is in one’s ear but apparently does not switch off when out of the ear. It keeps getting notifications even when outside the ear cavity. This slight problem further diminishes battery life.

Design of the Gear Icon X ear buds:

The ear buds come in subtle coloring other than the neon pink ones and it has a plastic outer coating. The Samsung Gear Icon X ear buds come with spare silicon ear buds and additional wingtips.

Samsung Gear Icon X Volume control:

The volume control on the Samsung Gear Icon X is a bit shifty if you ask me. It takes multiple swipes or taps to adjust the volume or change songs.

Another cool feature of the Samsung  ear buds are the tap and hold feature that allows you to choose between voice control, starting a workout and ambient sound.

Ambient sound in the Icon X:

Since these ear buds have such a snug fit, they can sometimes block out external sounds. So they have an option where you can turn up the volume on these ambient sounds so that you can hear that horn blaring at you when crossing the road listening to favorite song.

Samsung’s Gear Icon X price:

These Samsung ear buds will be available at 200$ next year which is 40$ more than the Apple  Air Pod ear buds.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back – Twit IQ Review

: The Woolies Strike Back – Twit IQ Review

Bubsy returns, the mascot of Accolade, in a new adventure

The nineties. The decade where being cool was about wearing sunglasses and being a surfer. Although Bubsy was not exactly like that, he tried and wants to redeem himself…

The Woolies Strikes Back, Bubsy, one of the Sonic barbarion that emerged from his proposal in the 90s, returns to the front page of video games with this title developed by the creators of Gianna Sisters. The team of Black Forest Games wants to respect the spirit of crazy platforms in 2D and in which to face the dangerous woolly with this title destined to delight (or not) the most veteran fans of the genre.

Accolade and Black Forest Games announce the availability of Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, a new iteration of the series that marks its return after twenty years of absence in the world of gaming.

For those who do not remember, Accolade is a publisher that operated between 1985 and 2000, and now makes its return to the launch of Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, for PC via Steam and GOG, and Playstation 4. PC users will receive a discount of 34% and the original soundtrack (which has a cost of $ 5) for a limited time until November 7th.

bubsy

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back has been developed by Black Forest Games, creators of Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams and Rogue Stormers. This new Bubsy is the first in the series since the release of Bubsy 3D in 1996.

It’s been a couple of months since Bubsy, one of the best known mascots that emerged during the 90’s fever (and not for the best reasons precisely), announced his return during the month of June, to the surprise of his own and strangers, in the days leading up to E3 2017. Now we get new news, and that Accolade, the mythical developer that has resurfaced with its original creation, has announced that the version for Playstation 4 will have a very limited physical edition.

This edition, entitled Purrfect Edition, arrives to delight the most avid collectors who want to celebrate as it deserves this unexpected and historic return. This will be available in major American stores for a price of $ 39.99. At the moment it is not known if Europe will have this edition, something that seems unlikely. Therefore, we recommend that interested parties start looking for import options.

For some time now, developers have been returning 90s video games of dubious honor to life. From the indecent ‘Shaq Fu’ to the excellent ‘Killer Instinct’, everyone is coming back to life. And of course, being the nineties the decade of the plataformeras mascots, some of these games would end up reviving some of these animal pets with Cool attitude (for the nineties, of course).

In the 90’s we saw all kinds of pets born: A knightly opossum armed with a sword and a jetpack in the excellent and forgotten ‘Rocket Knight’, an acrobat bat from a circus in ‘Aero the Acro-Bat’, the three-dimensional chameleon of the unjustly forgotten ‘Chameleon Twist’, the ninth alligator from a rejected project of Nintendo ‘Croc’, the excellent and fun gecko of ‘Gex: Enter the Gecko’, the absurd and hilarious secret agent fish ‘James Pond’, the absurd and incredibly great worm ‘Earthworm Jim’, … The list stretches to incredible limits.

The return of Bubsy to 2D platforms

Well, of all the possibilities that exist in this universe, today we live the return of one of those nineties mascots that nobody expected to return. One of those pets that today we could try Edgy (more than Sonic) and trying to emulate the success of just ‘Sonic the Edgehog’ and even had his own series of drawings and three titles under his name. It is ‘Bubsy’, the feline that … existed.

‘Bubsy: The Whoolies Strikes back’ is the new title and follows the trail of the first two titles in the series (and luckily ignores the existence of the nonsense of ‘Bubsy 3D’) on a 2D platform that seems to leave One side the speed of his ancestors that so badly left him. Enemies that killed you in one fell swoop, huge levels that left you on more than one occasion with places you did not know where to go … ‘Bubsy’ was a game, that although it was not the worst in the world, it made you despair more than one. At least, on an artistic level, he was well taken care of.

‘Bubsy: The Whoolies Strikes Back’ is dated this fall and will go on sale on Steam and Playstation 4. And it even means the return of its original developers, Accolade. But the question we all ask ourselves is: Why? Why are you still not wearing pants after these years? Well, maybe we are exaggerating. For this, we leave a trailer for the new title of the less loved lynx in history.

This edition will include:

The game ‘Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back’.

The band sounds the title.

The Bubsy business card

A mysterious postcard

Twit IQ Review: Microsoft Xbox One X

Twit IQ Review: Microsoft Xbox One X

The Beast of Xbox One X to Exam

It is always exciting to stand before the launch of a new video console, and November 2017 will be remembered for being the premiere of  Xbox One X . A Microsoft machine designed to change the paradigm of video games in this type of hardware, and a platform that we submit to analysis. Is it really the most powerful console ever created? We’ll tell you then.

This generation has been the one of change. Last year PS4 Pro came with a modest visual leap and, now, it’s time for Xbox One X to receive a more powerful visual evolution. The Slim model launched last year already incorporated some slight changes and enhancers of its hardware, however the well-known code as Project Scorpio is a qualitative advance so great that many have not hesitated to label Xbox One X as a hidden generational jump. We do not dare with such a statement, however Xbox One X power is disproportionate and complies with that promise made by Microsoft at the time to offer us the most powerful video game console to date.

All the brilliance with which the Xbox brand designs interfaces and offers services like Live for years is accompanied by a hardware that will take a while to see at full lung. What you can read in this article and the conclusions you can draw that accompanies it are those that are derived from the video games that currently have support for Xbox One X, but still are not the majority. There are powerful multiplatform releases of the moment such as Assassin’s Creed Origins or Titanfall 2 that have their X patches ready, while there are other cases such as Minecraft or The Witcher III: Wild Hunt that will wait until moments yet to be determined.

Xbox One X – The video game console, however, becomes strong in how beautifully it looks some of the greatest veterans like Gears of War 4 or Halo 5: Guardians, both with their desktop updates already available. What is clear is that adventures such as Bayek in Egypt and sports such as FIFA 18 show that Xbox One X is the video game where they are best, but there are still significant differences between those offering a light makeup and those who have focused on enhancing their proposal .

Of course, 499 euros is not a negligible amount, and only you can judge if the machine is worth what it costs, so we will try to offer all the information you need to prepare your trial.

What does the Xbox One X box include?

This is always subject to the edition that interests you, so let’s describe what the more standard version of 499 euros brings.

  • Xbox One X game console
  • Remote and its batteries
  • High Speed HDMI Cable
  • Power cord
  • 1-Month Promotional Code for Xbox Game Pass
  • 14 Day Promotional Code for Xbox Live Gold

Comparison PS4 Pro and Xbox One X

To begin with, we would like to highlight the comfort of adaptation. Microsoft has always offered generous facilities to download all its software or to float in the cloud all our user information, something that makes the process very pleasant when changing devices, but if we have an S we can carry out the Transition even with a cable connecting both machines.

As far as interfaces are concerned, in X we have the ones recently released with the latest update, so that the first steps with this new Xbox One X could not be simpler. After a few years of hesitation in the interface, Xbox One X seems that the new line is the clearest and most comfortable, without being as agile as the Xbox 360, but being clearly superior to some of the latest revisions we saw in One. The Redmond effort is still present for the backward compatibility, making the machine compatible with the entire Xbox catalog although we have not gone into too much detail at the moment to see how Xbox One X performs and, on the other hand, the boot time is very similar to the one of the last machine.

Within the comfort section we must also highlight the simplicity of its line, which allows Xbox One X to fit almost anywhere in the living room or in our bedroom, which together with the compactness of Xbox One X design and the ability to work horizontally or vertically. It looks good everywhere. It is good that since the division of Xbox has renounced the unattractive design of the standard One and has chosen again to reproduce something similar to S, although perhaps with something less exquisite in materials and without that panel with holes so elegant and showy of the Slim model.

What ends up rounding the comfort section is that, like the smallest revision released last year, X renounces having the bulky external power supply and that means having a less item at home … Which we all appreciate .

In terms of dimensions to the smallest revision, just a few millimeters of change upwards to finish consolidated in 30 centimeters long by 24 wide and barely 6 in thickness, and with a compact weight of 3.8Kgs. And that, although reproducing content in 4K heats up very slightly more than that model S, the truth is that it is just as silent as that one.

Some things that were superfluous in their design have been eliminated, as in S. For example, the Kinect connection still does not make an appearance, so if someone wants to use the motion detection peripheral, they must buy an official adapter to use it. While it is true that the Xbox One X in question costs a considerable amount, the truth is that the decision to erase in a stroke any connection for him connects with the abandonment to which Microsoft has submitted to this peripheral.

But how about the Xbox One X Games?

This is the most complicated part of evaluating Xbox One X. On the one hand, because everything is constantly changing, the patches are not always finished and the games that are added to the support do not stop doing it, and on the other because what we can show you in the video that accompanies the text is always subject to the loss of quality that there is always in a processed clip. We have tried to carry out some comparisons in the video report, but always end up suffering a loss of detail that ends up not doing justice to how these works really look on a 4K TV and with the considerable dimensions that are needed for that a similar resolution be noted.

Especially difficult is the fact that the level of improvement of the more than 130 video games that are currently listed as support recipients for X will vary significantly depending on what you want to offer the study that develops Xbox One X. For example, in the list you can see that some titles are labeled with the words “Improved Xbox One X”, to dry, that others include it with the word 4K or HDR and that some treasure the three characteristics.

However, as we said, the drip is constant so it’s easy to get outdated. For example, at the time when we were carrying out the video analysis, the updated version of Super Lucky’s Tale for X was not yet available, but at the moment in which we are writing this article … Although at the last minute, what has not allowed to deepen. The game supports 4K and 60 frames per second, being significantly more fluid in the new video game console, and leaving in evidence to some versions for previous machines that, in a first and brief glance, we have seemed much more irregular in this area. It is not the most shocking game but it is the only great launching title that accompanies the platform, so even though the improvement is not colossal it has seemed important to start with it.

And it is that all this is difficult to calibrate, of course. For example, after seeing a title with as much possibility of taking advantage of the resolution by the amount of small elements on screen as it is FIFA 18, the truth is that seeing it in 4K resolution offers very good sensations, making the colors of the turf more vibrant and causing the players to be totally recognizable in their faces even with the most general plans. If you have had the opportunity to watch 4K football on any of the digital platforms, the experience is quite similar, although without the loss of quality of a content broadcast on television. Of course, the game still has some problems here to keep their 60FPS completely stable, something that happens in all editions of the game we have seen to date.

On the other hand, the version that we have had the opportunity to see about Assassin’s Creed Origins in 4K is not yet finished, it will end up having its final version on the day of the video game launch, but already offers overwhelming samples of its possibilities. The 4K, not native this time, is enough to give a visual “push” to the program, but the power of the machine is particularly evident in elements such as the distance drawn or the detail of certain textures and screen objects, something fantastic to encourage the sensation of spectacularity that its resounding stages transmit. Unfortunately this version did not include an HDR that will be implemented on November 7, so again it is a trial that we have to leave halfway.

Gears of War 4, in some things, offers the best results. Unlike with Origins, Xbox One X treat of HDR is formidable, probably the best we have seen so far, and this achieves not only amazing lighting but a remarkable growth in the treatment of color. In addition, its increase in resolution offers remarkable benefits to contemplate the good artistic work carried out by The Coalition. However, we must clarify that the title has two visual options, on the one hand to enhance the graphic section with its best finery and its increased resolution or, on the other hand, increase its performance to trigger fluency. To begin, we must qualify that these alternatives are only applicable to non-competitive modes, that is, to campaign or Horde, so as not to create disadvantages among players; and do not forget to make clear also that the 60FPS that tries to achieve the program in X are not stable in this Performance Mode.

More veteran is Killer Instinct, which saw the light in 2013, and that already at that time debuted with 60 frames per second and a resolution that was initially 720p, after 900p and now reaches 4K. The problem we have with the Iron Galaxy fighting game is that it has its years, and that extra resolution does not just play in favor of a treatment of textures or clothing for wrestlers that not only is it not always trained to take advantage, but sometimes even plays against him, showing some weaknesses that were not so obvious in 1080p.

Halo 5: Guardians received its patch in the middle of the afternoon of November 2, consolidating that feeling of constant reception of titles with Xbox One X support, so together with Super Lucky’s Tale they are products that WE have not been able to devote the necessary time to value it with enough depth. Yes it is true that the sensations are positive with him thanks to that 16GB patch that includes abundant visual improvements and 4K support but, as with the Playtonic platforms, for now we dare not go into much deeper assessments. Yes we can tell you that the sharpness of the program with this number of pixels in this Xbox One X is fantastic, and that we do not see any irregularity in the rate of images per second.

Xbox One X Other considerations

For starters, although it is not directly related to the games but with the price, the truth is that a Blu-ray player in 4K is already worth a considerable amount of money, and both the S model and the X of One include it , something that PlayStation 4 does not do, so already at the beginning there is some ground gained on your part.

On the other hand, and with videojuegos of size as abusive as the 100GB that they haunt, for example, Halo 5: Guardians or Gears of War 4 with all their updates and their free maps, it goes without saying that the Xbox One X had to be provided with a hard disk wide series. Xbox One X has opted for the size of 1TB, however, it will not be difficult to fill with some ease.

The video game console also continues to cultivate what we started to see in Xbox One of Microsoft’s understanding that now the player not only demands to play but also to share his prowess. That is why Xbox One X offers a tool for capturing content much higher than the one provided then, one that significantly reduces the processing of the video that collects and that allows to collect clips at 4K and 60FPS resolution in a material still far from what the best capturing they allow but that it hoards a very estimable level in the 30 seconds of maximum time that they allow. When sharing through Xbox Live come into play the limitations, of course, with a strong processing and a cap of 1080p.

As for load times … The boot, as I mentioned in the section related to comfort, is slightly shorter, but it is true that for other titles such as Gears of War 4 or Halo 5: Guardians itself offers a few times of waiting noticeably longer than in S. This, as you will be imagining, is due to the need to load all the material with new textures of more weight, more complex illuminations and 4K resolutions … but not by logical ceases to be striking .

Conclusions:

Xbox One X is a video game console, so it does not make much sense to finish the assessment with a note as if it were a traditional video game, and more with a machine so subject to show what is really capable over time. And we do not mean that what we think about what hardware is going to change in a year, since it will continue to look like Xbox One X console with enormous potential, but rather due to the fact that we will see then whether it is taking something out of the game or not.

And, in fact, we chase the feeling that this is only the tip of the iceberg. As often happens with any recently released hardware, the first titles that premiere for him are far from what it is capable of offering. This is something that is particularly evident with this desktop offer from Microsoft. On the one hand, as it is not exactly Xbox One X but a revision of an existing one, it makes sense that, except for Super Lucky’s Tale there is not a big Triple-A to be taken to the mouth … But the one that is thus not ceases to be disappointing and obliges, as we have told you a few lines above, that the big stars of its video game offer are either titles already with a certain time behind them or works from third parties such as Electronic Arts, Activision or Ubisoft. It will be with the passage of the months or years when we begin to see how the exclusives take advantage of it, and also what the multiplatform can do to appear on several devices at the same time and offer something here that separates them from the rest.

But that are nuances and assessments about the software that do not stop being that, opinions on the appropriateness or not of launching a machine with this type of accompaniment. What really matters is that after the hesitant start of Xbox One, Microsoft launches an Xbox One X that costs 499 euros but has both inside that really offers enough value to make reasonable purchase. Of course, the fact that it is so difficult to make judgments from the outside is the factor related to what you need to show in its maximum splendor. Not everyone has a 4K TV, and as estimable as the 1080p rescaling of the super sampling that greatly improves the visual finish in that resolution, the truth is that only with a device capable of playing the 2160p these releases are observed throughout his glory

So we do not think that with hardware dedicated to a hardcore audience and relatively minor because of their price will reverse the current state of affairs, but we do think that there is much courage in the maneuver. Especially taking into account that there are much cheaper alternatives that offer both themselves and the competition, and it is this absence of fear that makes the industry move forward. Now Microsoft has both fronts covered, the most casual player with the beautiful and elegant model S and the most dedicated amateur with the equally slender but powerful model X. We only need the hardest … Fill the calendar of games that show your potential.

Apple iPhone X Reviews: Tim Cook’s Rushed Vision of an Awkward Future

Apple lifted the review restriction today for those who got an early look into the functioning of the iPhone X, while the rest of the people in the world have to wait in a queue at the nearest Apple Store just so Tim Cook and his team can capture a few pictures of the demand. While some reviewers have had more than a week to review the device, many others have had just a day or less with this futuristic phone before reporting about it.

Let us have a look at the reviews put up by these people about the iPhone X, in acknowledgement with Jim Dalrymple who, like many others, has had his device with him for only for less than twenty-four hours.

What was the most surprising about the iPhone X was that when it was taken out of the box, the thought was that the physical appearance and the design would be much better than its predecessors. It was a waste of time comparing it with the iPhone 8 plus. However, once switched on, the iPhone X has majority of screen space. It does not have the big space at the top and bottom like the iPhone Plus models, it’s all screen and looks beautiful. The iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch size screen & the iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen whereas the iPhone X a 5.8-inch screen.iPhone X

From all of Apple’s new designs and technology, there are two closely related aspects that everyone is curious to know – the whole design in general of the iPhone X with the OLED screen particularly and the correctness of FaceID.

After spending a month from the time of its launch establishing that the display was ‘all-screen’ and how Apple accomplished in removing the bezels, there is juxtaposition with the actuality. The screen’s surface area percentage is less than that of the Galaxy Note 8 and the screen’s brightness is also less than that of the competing handset by Samsung. But the OLED option turns out to be the clear winner when the yardstick is not the competitor phone but the previous versions of the iPhones, all of which had LCD screens.

James Titcomb stated to The Telegraph, that iPhone X has something known as “Super Retina” screen, which, in Apple’s terminology, is the first iPhone display to use OLED technology. This means the there is a better pop to the colours, the blacks are more dark and as a whole, the display looks brighter.

There is no denying the fact that it actually looks incredible. It is definite advancement from the previous iPhones, which now start to look a little monotonous in comparison.

However, there is the inclusion of the forward facing sensors which makes it very clear that it has robbed Apple the full potential of an ‘all screen’ forward display. This notch is an evident iconic element, but it serves the purpose of Apple’s marketing first and its users second. Many reviewers have said that after using it and getting used to the phone, it becomes ‘invisible’ but it will remain an uncomfortable reminder that this outline is the outline of an Apple smartphone.

iPhone X _2

Nilay Patel at The Verge gives review of the notch and how it is badly managed in third-party softwares. Apps that have not yet been particularly updated for the iPhone X but still utilise the Apple iOS auto-layout system will fit the screen properly but weird things occur such as Dark Sky obstructs half the status bar with its own hardcoded black bar, Uber places your account icon above the battery indicator and in the Halide camera app, the settings are hidden by the notch and to some extent gets tucked into the display’s bunny ears. It almost manages to look right but then you recognize it’s in fact just broken.

Apps that already been updated for the iPhone X all have various ways of handling this notch that occasionally lead to add results, particularly in apps that play video. Instagram Stories don’t completely fill the screen and instead have big gray borders both at the top and bottom.

Youtube has only two options for a full screen playback the first being a small window bordered by letter and pillar-boxing or a full screen option with the notch covering the left side of the video. Netflix is somewhat better but the border problem remains almost the same. Undoubtedly, popular apps will be updated over time but first impressions are important and innovative designs for screens and the notch are immature pieces of technology.

The design has also eliminated the Home button and replaced it with swipes and gestures, which is commonly seen on other platforms but seen for the first time in the case of Apple. Forbes’ David Phelan said in his review that there have been major changes to the user experience. To enter the iPhone X from the look screen, one has to swipe upwards from the bottom of the display and 3 seconds thereafter a bar and the words ‘Swipe up to open’ appear to help remind the user of the next action.

When you are in an app’s interface, it is this same swipe action that returns you to the home screen, complete with an animation to enhance the action of the app shrinking back to its shortcut icon, in the correct place.

It is all wonderful but it takes a lot of time to get used to the swipe instead of attempting to press the missing Home button. In addition, the missing Home button means there will be no double-press for launching multi-tasking. Now users will have to swipe up and pause and then the open apps interface opens as before.

Thus, Apple has excluded the Home button and TouchID from the iPhone X, as well as forced the notch onto the screen, just so that it could handle facial recognition. Tech-savvy users have tentatively given a positive review for Face ID as it works great indoors and in dark surroundings but in sunlight or under fluorescent lights, the accuracy goes down. Also, the sensors need to be in a ‘sweet spot’ close to the user’s face.

Another reviewer, Matthew Panzarino’s experience is quite similar to other reviewer’s experiences. It works so swiftly and impeccably that after a while you forget that raising and swiping is actually unlocking the device and occasionally, and while unlocking you will get to see the FaceID animation.

The “all swipe” interface makes using this phone and apps feel seamless and interconnected. Matthew says that FaceID failed when either he was not looking at the phone when it made the attempt to read his face, with attention detection switched on, or it was a steep angle and could not capture his whole face.
