Nvidia Considers Multi-Chip GPU for Future Designs

Nvidia Considers Multi-Chip GPU for Future Designs

Nvidia has been making progress in a technical wall in GPU design wherein it would no longer be capable of shoving more transistors into a GPU die to increase performance to which rate customers have grown accustomed to. GPUs in general are designed as monolithic dies with their functionality under one` roof’.  This tends to take place often and the earlier GPUs on some occasion utilised separate chips for specific functionality.

Several times, AMD together with Nvidia had used various cores in providing support for the extra monitors or to bond links between PCI Express and AGP.  Nvidia has now been appraising the option of a multi-chip GPU which would interconnect with the other parts of the core such as MCM – Multi-chip-Module, considering the core component of the GPU, that have been single-die matters for a long time.

However monolithic GPU designs tend to have issues from various problems. At first they could be reticle-busters, pushing the limits of what TSMC, GlobalFoundries or Samsung could construct into a single core. Harvesting good GPUs from the corrupt ones could escalate issues when the manufacturer tries to harvest good die as in the case of Nvidia and the GTX 970.

GPU -1

In-House Simulator

The system that they utilised in recovering parts for the GTX 970 also had an influence on the memory bandwidth of the GPUswhile accessing its last 512MB of RAM.  If GPUs had been built in modules, and linked together on a common package, the subsequent chip could theoretically be huge and more powerful than any single card.

The research team of Nvidia utilised an in-house simulator in evaluating their designs and build two virtual GPUs comprising of 256 streaming multiprocessors -SMseach.

One was based on the present monolithic design while the other utilised an MCM design.  In the study of the author, they were of the belief that they can exceedthe performance of the biggest construct able GPU by 44.5% and come within 10% of a monolithic GPU die which exceeds any product presently buildable at any foundry.

If this type of approach in a perfect situation could harvest amazing development in performance as well as power consumption together with TDP,  one would not have the complete GPUs horsepower focused in a small space. Caution would be essential against jumping to conclusion.

Non-Uniform Memory Access – NUMA

The authors of the report have acknowledged that this would need software which was NUMA – Non-Uniform Memory Access, compatible. Moreover there would also be an inevitable performance hit while accessing data that is held in different GPU or sharing information over numerous cores.

These types of performance have already taken place when consumers try to deploy arrays of GPUs and the performance penalties are now considerablytougher than what they tend to be in an MCM.It is left to be seen what Nvidia would be doing for the next couple of generations.

However a move to MCM GPUs tends to be almost certain. The issue is which company would be getting there first.  It is believed that AMD’s Navi GPU architecture off in the distance could be utilising an MCM GPU design also particularly since the AMD has the tech in place with Zen, at the moment.

Is a Mac Laptop or Desktop a Better Investment?

Is a Mac Laptop or Desktop a Better Investment?

Have you decided to purchase a Mac as your next computer? Whether you want a more secure system with reliable Mac service. or one meant for designers, you’ve made an excellent choice. Now you just have one more thing to decide before you begin looking for Apple computers for sale. Do you want to purchase a laptop or a desktop?

The Portability Factor

The first thing you should do is decide where you intend to use your new computer the most. If you only intend to use it at home, a desktop will work well. However, if you want something you can take with you to cafes, to work or when you travel via train or plane, you’ll obviously need a laptop. Even if you usually use the computer at home right now, consider your long-term plans in case they change the way you use the internet.

The Size Factor

Size is another important detail, even if you don’t need a portable computer. Consider how much space you have in your home. Do you live in a dorm room? Are you sharing a small apartment? Have you jumped on the tiny house bandwagon? If you don’t have a lot of space to spread out, a desktop is probably not a good idea. A laptop can be folded up and put away when you aren’t using it, which means your kitchen table can double as a desk or you’ll still have sleeping space if you need to use your computer in bed.

mac laptop

The Intended Use Factor

Finally, consider what you’ll be using the computer for. While laptops will work for gaming or designing, their smaller displays may make it harder for you to work, especially if your eyesight isn’t 20/20 to begin with. Desktops offer a larger display screen so you don’t miss anything.

Don’t worry if you’re still not sure which Mac is right for you. When you search “Apple reseller near me,” you’ll find plenty of companies that can help you go over specifications and decide exactly what you need to be productive.

Apple iPhone 8 Will Abandon Touch ID Fingerprint Reader in Favour of a Facial Recognition system

Apple iPhone 8 Will Abandon Touch ID Fingerprint Reader in Favour of a Facial Recognition system

iPhone 8 is set to do away with the fingerprint for the new facial recognition

Apple next eagerly awaited smartphone is the iPhone 8 about which speculations are quite tremendous. One of the analyst has claimed that Apple will be moving away from its popular Touch ID fingerprint recognition system completely in order to incorporate facial recognition system in the future iPhone variants. Rumours have suggested that Apple is currently deciding whether to put the sensor at the rear or on the front of the device.

The Claims

Latest claim about abandoning the popular Touch ID fingerprint sensors has been made by a reputable KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.He believes that Apple would be going for a edgeless display in the next variant of the iPhone in order to give it the highest screen-to-body ratio. Thereby Apple users will get more screen right at the top and Apple could even consider to ditch the home button in order to enlarge the screen at the bottom in iPhone 8.

He predicts that the OLED model will not support the fingerprint recognition as the full display design isn’t compatible with the widely used capacitive fingerprint recognition technology.

He even goes on to say Apple will have to deal with a number of problems while bringing the Touch ID capabilities on the OLED screen therefore they are most likely to abandon it and opt for the facial recognition system. If they don’t then Apple would have to deal with the last minute changes which ultimately results in the unwanted delays.

All the rumours surrounding iPhone 8

Here is the list of rumours which has found their way into framing the outlook of the next iPhone to be released this year.

  1. Dual-lens 3D Camera
  2. 5 inch and 5.8 inch variants with OLED screens
  3. Wireless charging support
  4. Industry grade aluminium back panels made up of two reinforced glass panes along with a metal frame present in the middle.
  5. Curving glass casing
  6. Facial recognition sensors

More rumours about iPhone 8

Just a week ago a videos was shared online by MobileFun which gave the first look of the accessories to go with the iPhone 8. This included two Olixar products offering a vertical dual camera setup along with a robust edge-to-edge display which has become a new trend in the consumer electronics market.

It even had a screen protector which tends to reveal a lot about the next iPhone look and design. Screen protector has suggested Apple would be going with almost bezeless design with the next iPhone in order to give a stiff competition to the Samsung latest premium Galaxy models.

This also means that iPhone 8 will be lot slimmer at the top and bottom than the iPhone 7. Until Apple unveils the next iPhone in next few months all these rumours will keep going interest as it taps into the curiosity of the prospective buyers.

Twit IQ Gadget Review: Google WiFi – Hassle Free Router

Twit IQ Gadget Review: Google WiFi – Hassle Free Router

A Net for the Whole House: Google Wifi is a Wireless Revolution

From now on Google Wifi, which in the modular principle a WLAN network spans. What it can and if it perhaps even better than a FritzBox WLAN system…

The WLAN of a router has only rarely enough range to ensure in apartments or even houses in every corner still a good Internet connection. The network can then be extended, for example, with WLAN repeaters or via Powerline via the sockets. However, in many systems, the transmission rate decreases with increasing distance or a new network are stretched, in which a device has to register again in order to go online. This will make Google Wifi better. It spans a so-called mesh network with multiple nodes that communicate with each other.

Google WiFi _3

If a user moves from place to place in a mesh network with a device, his wireless connection is automatically passed on to the node with the strongest connection without requiring a new login. The network has a common SSID. In the ideal case, the transmission rate drops only slightly when the distance to the router is small.

This technique is not new, very large mesh networks, for example, provides free-wheeling. Existing solutions for the home application are however relatively expensive, Google Wifi is comparatively cheap: A single device costs 140 euros, in a double pack 250 euros. The Google device is child-friendly and is implemented via the iOS or Android app. Connect the first device to the router, scan QR code, assign name and password – that’s it in principle already. Other nodes are added similarly quickly and easily.

This is something Google can do – you also notice the app through which devices and network are managed. It is simple, clear and provides all the necessary information about the function of the network. This includes the connection strengths of the individual nodes or the transmission rates for a connected device – in real-time or over a longer period of time. In addition, you can set up a guest access or restrict access for children. Good thing is that you can dim the lights of small, white cylinders. Better yet, you could turn off Google Wifi completely, if you do not need it, for example, at night.

Google WiFi -1

You need a Google account to set up, and only the account owner can add additional administrators. The Google Wifi connection of a smartphone to the nodes is encrypted. Google promises to collect nothing but diagnostic data. If you do not want that, you can remove the authorization in the settings. “We earn money by selling the devices,” said a Google manager at the presentation. The principle of collecting data for advertising would not exist in this case. Google Wifi Connections to devices to be constructed depending on the location and interference automatically in the 2.4 or 5 GHz band. In addition, Google Wifi is constantly searching for the channel in which least other devices are broadcasting.

The Fritzbox gets it also

So far the theory – in practice, has been in the approximately 80 square meter test apartment but not everything worked as perfectly as expected. Because the range of a device is relatively short. Because the router is behind a supporting wall, a second device had to be placed at a distance of about 5 meters to keep the signal strength high. In order to reach even the most remote point of the apartment with acceptable signal strength, a third node had to be installed, with the lack of sockets not an ideal location. The Fritzbox Cable 7590 used as a router creates this distance in the 2.4 gigahertz network at almost the same transmission rate all by itself.

In order to span a mesh network with high signal strength in the entire apartment, a total of four nodes were necessary. But then the network worked almost perfectly. The connection remained constant during movement and the handover of the nodes was virtually non-delayed.

For users who have only got a simple router from their provider, Google Wifi is such a good solution, in order to be able to span a widescreen WLAN network. But the principle is not revolutionary. If a newer Fritzbox is in the household, the investment is rather unnecessary. In combination with repeaters or powerline adapters from the manufacturer, a similar mesh cover is also achieved without difficulty and relatively inexpensively.
